Pepaw was an old-time preacher man. He preached hell's fire and God's salvation from Freewill Baptist Church pulpits all over Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. He could pound out "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" on the old upright piano so loud it could be heard all over those Kiamichi foothills. Arbor revivals, creek baptisms, hand cranking the old ice cream freezer on hot summer nights, the sound of the whippoorwill, the bench he made us - such sweet, perfect memories of Pepaw . . yes, we will meet one day on that beautiful shore . . .
