Skeen and Dola Platt Marriage License Freestone County, Texas |
|
Front: R. F. Skeen and Miss Dolly Platt, 21 December
1894 The dark square area states: Winkler, Texas November 30, 1894. This certifies that I gave my consent for license to R. F. Skeen for my daughter Dola Platt. [signed] W. E. Platt. This dark square was a piece of yellowed, ruled paper that was glued to the marriage record in Freestone County, Texas Marriage Records, Volume 5 on page 92. Our certified copy was made in 1992. A few years later, the county clerk had all the fragile, original marriage books photocopied and placed in binders for the public's use. When this was undertaken, the little yellowed piece of paper was not photocopied. The original books are now in storage in a non air-conditioned, unheated (and we're told, damp) area of the old courthouse. We have made two attempts in recent years to view the original books to see if the yellowed piece of paper still exists, but as yet, we have not been given permission to do so.
