The date of death on this record may be in error. A deed in Augusta County, Virginia, dated 7 September 1869, shows widow, Eliza and children, George D. and Susan Sampson, partitioning land owned by "G. W. Humphrey, dec'd". The 1870 Augusta County, Virginia Federal mortality schedule shows George died March 1869 of typhoid fever.
